Martin Anderson

Martin is a human factors specialist with over 30 years experience of applying human and organisational factors in high-hazard industries and complex systems.

He is a Chartered Human Factors Professional and a Fellow of the UK Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors (CIEHF). He is also a Chartered Member of the UK Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH).

Publications

This page contains details of books that I have edited, articles I’ve written for industry magazines and technical papers I’ve authored on a wide range of subjects from industries including rail, nuclear, chemicals, oil and gas, mining, aviation and electricity distribution.

My most popular publication over the past ten years has been “Behavioural Safety and Major Accident Hazards – Magic Bullet or Shot in the Dark”, published in 2005. The contents of this paper are still largely relevant today.

Presentations

I have been a Keynote and invited speaker at events around the world. Highlights include conceiving, organising and chairing an international conference on Human and Organisational Factors in the Oil, Gas & Chemical Industries in 2007 for the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors. I subsequently organised similar events in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014.

I have also lectured in human factors, ergonomics and process safety at undergraduate and Masters level at several UK universities.
